Editor's Verdict:

LivingMemory is a fantastic, unusual site, which offers users the opportunity to document the major events in their lives through photos, stories, timelines and more. The idea is simple - users simply sign up with their details and create an account, and begin building a rich, content full profile that can be constantly edited and viewed by 'subscribers', who may be interested in what you're up to! In terms of privacy, users can choose whether to make their accounts publically accessible to all users of LivingMemory, or just to family members or those who have requested to be 'subscribed' to your feed. The best part about LivingMemory is that it is completely free for all users!

Perhaps the best way to evaluate LivingMemory is to consider the features that it offers users. When a user logs on they are greeted by a vast page of empty 'slots' which are filled using memories, my moments, events, photos etc. In 'My Moments' users are required to answer a number of stock questions such as 'first kiss', 'your highschool prom' or 'which college did you attend'. There are literally thousands of questions to be answered, but users can choose a selection (or the best ones!) in order to give an overall impression of a particular time in their lives. Events that are occurring in the future can be added to the event calendar, and if these are events hosted by the user themselves, a guest list can be drawn up and invitations can be sent by email.

In the Timeline section, users can add entries to a customisable timeline that documents the major events in a person's life. The site suggests that parents can create such a timeline for their children, to document in real time their major landmark moments. We really liked this idea; though struggle to see why anyone would bother filling it in otherwise (it is so customisable that it would take many hours to mark on the major events in an adults life in one go). All of the above features are supplemented by photo albums, which are hugely editable; allowing users to tag other users, leave comments on photos, rearrange albums and publish them for all (or some) to see. Users can also keep a comprehensive family tree, into which events and timeline markers can be integrated.

The whole site is a really fantastic way of linking up life events with media and displaying it all in an informative and pleasing manner. LivingMemory is a kind of social networking site that will appeal to those interested in genealogy, as it allows users to share more than just what's happening now - it allows users to keep a comprehensive record of everything that has been, for years to come. If this interests you, check it out using the link below - it's completely free!
