Editor's Verdict:

In the global world of today, it's easy for even the closest of families to lose touch a little. If your family is spread over thousands of miles, in many different countries, the internet has opened up a number of new ways to communicate. MyFamily is a great way for families to keep in touch, have discussions, share photos and videos, organize reunions and more. Working just like a social networking site, MyFamily allows users to sign up and create a profile which they can then link to other profiles of users in their family. Through this web of profiles, users can see what their family is getting up to, even if they are miles apart. It's not just useful for geographically separate families - some users may simply wish to use the site a method of safe, secure online storage for their treasured memories in photos and film, and show them off to other members of the family.

There are number of features which makes MyFamily a pretty special social networking site. Users can generate 'Family Groups' so that they can better manage who they display information to, send photos to or contact as part of a group message. Users may wish to split family members into groups on the basis of who they are related to, their age bracket, family name or geographical location. Users also have access to an internal mailbox called MyFamilyMail that relatives can use to contact each other. It's certain that this site is not a traditional genealogy site, in that it doesn't allow users to create their family tree online or use sourced data and transcribed original documents to research their trees further. While this would obviously be a problem for some users, who wish to actually research their family tree, this isn't the intention of this site, and so we don't judge it as a fault. While membership of MyFamily is free, joining the site is even easier for existing users of any of the sites in the Ancestry.com family (which is undeniably vast!), as users are already pre-registered with the site.

All in all, we really liked what MyFamily has to offer its users. As a free site, it provides a good range of features that are simple to use and great to look at. While this site isn't going to fulfill all of your genealogy needs, as a site intended to allow users to communicate and share information with family members, we think it does well.
