I have used several programs in the past, but hadn't really gone anywhere with my family tree in over 25 years. I had acquired MyHeritage and once I transferred my old GedCom files and started to work with it I haven't been able to stop! There were a few issues: I have multilingual/multi-cultural issues--Hebrew names, calendars and Jewish events--in my family tree, and at first found that the Family Web site was not easily accommodating these. I contacted support and Dean (and others) showed me that Family Tree Builder handled those details. It took a few attempts to crossload the online site to FTB (partly because of my skittishness), but, again, with encouragement from the support team, once I got it working, the work has gone seamlessly!

The Smart Matches are exciting, and so is being able to share data and make corrections via related MyHeritage Family site administrators. It is somewhat irksome that any attempt to query the databases requires payment of a monthly fee, but this is and should be a business proposition, so if we use a subscription wisely, it is worth the simplicity of access.

I have been involved with Genealogy since 2012 and have used My Heritage since the beginning. After a few "false starts" due to my over-enthusiasm (going down the wrong road to quickly without supporting verification ) I have had few problems; and those that I have had have been resolved quickly (usually within 48 hours or less of reporting the problem). I enjoy the recently installed linkage to Find a Grave, it provides a direction into which to conduct research on a particular deceased individual; but also links to specific graveyards within the area (and some outstanding photographs accomplished by volunteers).

The photography feature in My Heritage provides easy access to photographs (either my family or those found through research). It also allows one to access just one individual by name instead of searching through numerous photos.

The tech support is great and the staff goes over & above in providing assistance &; more importantly, solutions to any problem that happens. In addition I have submitted a few suggestions for improvement that are being considered. I would recommend My Heritage to people new to the field or those who are transiting their research to computer based programs from paper (B.C.E.=Before Computers Existed).

I am happy to report that from the start I have found MyHeritage.com to be well suited to the needs of a family member wanting to document information already on hand as well as research and obtain new information. In the few instances I asked for technical help or information, there was a quick acknowledgement of the query and then soon after a response was received. The service in this regard is excellent.

Their layout of the family tree is easy to read, easy to access and to create in the first place.
My only disappointment is in the fact that it was not clear to me, (and maybe only me) that once payment was made to obtain an excess of 250 family members in the tree and to obtain additional information, I was not aware that the payment did not include record information from public records and that an additional subscription was required in order to access these records and to save relevant ones to the tree if they matched. As a pensioner in a country with a weak currency, committing to an ongoing subscription in dollars, ad infinitum, in order to obtain a finite number of record matches is... (Read the full review)

I have been a member of the My Heritage Site for over 3 years and have enjoyed every minute that I have spent 'growing' my family tree. The site is really user friendly and has additional features such as family statistics and being able to print your own chart. I have the Premium Plus plan so have unlimited storage and that's great, because I can upload as many photos as I want, including birth and death certificates.

If I've had occasion to contact Customer Support at any time, they have replied within a day and have done their best to explain or fix any problems as swiftly and professionally as possible.

I tend to prefer the online site when making any updates or changes, but that doesn't pick up any errors I may make with dates, etc., so I need to re-sync with my Family Tree Builder every now and again. Hopefully this facility will be available at some stage.

I also wish that we didn't have to Accept or Reject each Smart Match individually. A "Select All" facility would be a great bonus, but I'm hoping they're working on that at the moment :)

I never tried to write my family tree, but what made my nephew was very fascinating so I too entered in "My Heritage" world.

I found it quite easy to use to order memories, photos and many other things... Relatives I didn't knew found me, so we could mix our memories! Thanks a very capable distant cousin now I have information over my family till the year 1500 !

When I find problems I write to Support and always I had quick and kind help!

The only great problem not depends on the site. Italy has too little archives fully digitized so any information is based to personal memories or private documents. So, unhappily, I couldn't appreciate what Premium offers. But I hope in a better future...

I often propose this site to my friends, because I think it is very interesting, useful and easy to play, and a very good and intelligent pastime!

I have used MyHeritage for many years both the online family tree and the offline family tree builder affectionately known as FTB. The most recent version synchcronises between the online and offline trees. just click on the synch button in FTB and data that has changed since your last synch downloads from the net into your offline tree and then reloads your tree from FTB to the net with any changes you might have made to the offline version. Very useful adjuncts are the Smart Matches where names in your tree are matched with similar families in other member's trees, and the Record Matches that match data in your tree with data in various family history repositotries, newspapers, immigration lists.

Entering data is simple and straightforward, almost totally intuitive. Start by entering what you do know about your family and then before long you will start getting smart matches and your tree will grow. Various useful tools are included that allow you to run allsorts of reports on the data.

Since my forced retirement in 1991, I started in 1993/4 collecting data of my family and predecessors and wrote it down by hand.

In 2006 I was introduced to information on the genealogies of old families in South Africa published in books by NA Coetzee and CC de Villiers and this boosted my thirst to the knowledge of my ancestors as well as those of my wife and her parents.

In the meantime I had to cope with new technologies and had to make myself computer literate.
This said and done I had been introduced to MyHeritage in 2006 and after many hours in front of my computer collecting and registering data collected of members of the families that my wife and myself belonged to, I approached MyHeritage for membership of their Internet programme dealing with familily registers and family histories.

On the 7th June 2009 , with the help and guidance of the very capable staff at MyHeritage, I published my first Du Plessis, Minnaar and Reynders Family Register.

I was on the look out for a family tree builder and my search ended after I found the MyHeritage. This application was easy to find, and easier to install.

The good:
1. Very good and easy to understand User Interface. There is also a simple wizard for creating a family, which would certainly help a new user to get started.
2. The tool has an excellent database, covering pretty much every aspect of an individual. This includes simple details like Sur Names, Maiden names all the way to Military Ranks, Titles and important facts about an individual. The tool also allows to tag photographs of each individual.
3. This tool has multiple options to generate family trees & charts.

The 'not so good':
1. The Tool requires the user to register at the MyHeritage Portal. The registration is free, and should not take more than a couple of minutes. I have also NOT seen any spam mails coming in after the registration.
2. Each time the software is opened, it tries to open the MyHeritage web site. This may be a minor irritant. My PC is connected to the internet 24/7, but I don't know what would happen if the PC is not connected... (Read the full review)

A very easy way to make the tree of your family. Not so expensive - until you want to research a little more - then it gets expensive, and that is a shame.

Only used it so far for 6 days with links site gives have sufficiently completed four sets of generation for my family on free trial back at least five generations each from my Maternal and Paternal grandparents so thanks for free trial. I recommend it. bit addictive though! bad point easy to get confused when you have Snr and a Jnr I had several and nearly put wrong wifes and siblings together. but you can if lucky get a link to a family tree that can sort you out but check they are correct as I got one who has linked children to their grandparents as their children. he didn't check a census double check those as they can double up or be misspelt.
