After two years of using their software, which I initially found quite satisfactory, I uncovered alarming truths about their affiliations. They are backing a foreign government notorious for misusing DNA information and committing human rights violations. WikiTree's actions perpetuate the denial of essential information to people of color globally. Their support of the DNA company MyHeritage, based in Israel, is particularly concerning given the country's ongoing conflicts with its neighbors and the alarming use of AI in warfare that has caused immeasurable suffering.
I received information from the MyHeritage team stating that DNA matches for Black individuals from Africa will never be recognized, with a disheartening implication that all Black people require "de-radicalization." By aligning with such entities, WikiTree provides financial backing to a foreign government accused of severe war crimes, all while utilizing our personal information. This means that WikiTree’s extensive informational resources are now beholden to a foreign government that disregards human rights and ethical standards, posing a serious moral dilemma for all users.
In summary, I would not recommend Wiki Tree to a friend.
