This site is easy to use and download images. It is great for non-conformist and Wills.

The quality of transcripts leaves a lot to be desired. You have to be creative in your research criteria.

In the past, I notified The Genealogist of transcript errors & ticked the box to be advised. I did this for a significant period of time simply because I know the importance of having access to good transcripts: these form the basis for the research functionality.

I stopped providing this free of charge service to The Genealogist when I received an email from The Genealogist complaining about the number of notifications I had made and that it kept staff too busy as they had other work to do.

I was gobsmacked: to this day have not forgotten the words which started off "It has come to my attention....."

Felt like I was at school again. I said to the woman that the site provides the facility to contact The Genealogist and doesn't limit the number of times for contact but this fell on deaf ears.

I still use the site because I am undertaking a lot of non-conformist research and it is good for Wills... (Read the full review)

Hi,

Pros:
I've been a member for just over a year now and have to say I love this site! I've tried other sites in the past but have found I either get too many results or not the results im looking for.

This site has a great coverage of records (I've got a diamond subscription) and the search tools are so handy for finding lost ancestors. You can search for a family or an address as well, which makes tracing my smith line much easier!

To top it off their support staff are very helpful, I got stuck trying to find on of my smith's and the girl on the phone emailed me back in half an hour after finding the record! (He moved to wales!)

Cons:
This site is very UK based, not many international records, although there are some.

In summary, I would recommend The Genealogist to a friend.

Very easy claims made for access to a wide variety of records, then you try...and discover that your particular parish is not covered.

Easy to join, but not easy to leave...

Not at all easy to use and not as comprehensive as findmypast.

In summary, I would not recommend The Genealogist to a friend.
