Having read a few of the rather harsh negative user reviews of Ancestry.co.uk here, I thought I should add my two cents worth! I will admit that the site is not perfect (what website is?) but having used a number of different UK-based genealogy sites (both free and paid) to research my family tree, I can honestly say that Ancestry.co.uk is the best by far. No other site gives you as many features and no other site has as much information on it as Ancestry.
I think some of the 1-star reviews posted here are very unfair. Yes, the site is expensive, but you get what you pay for. And yes, you do have to ring up to cancel your subscription, which is a royal pain, however it is a freephone number and cancelling over the phone is fairly straightforward, so is it really worth giving it 1-star overall because of that? These are very harsh reviews, so I thought I should try and balance things out more with my positive experience.
I have found Ancestry.co.uk very easy and intuitive to use and it has helped me enormously to
a) research my family tree
b) present my family tree graphically using the online tools provided, which makes it great for showing it to other family members.
Ok, I will admit that it doesn't have all the info you need to fill in all of the gaps - no website does. But, believe me when I tell you that it makes it so much easier, faster and more enjoyable to research your family's history when you have all the info, tools and online community that Ancestry.co.uk gives you access to.
