I forgot to cancel my free trial just after it ended. I never used any service on ancestry and they refuse to refund the 69.99 they took from me. I don't want the service and the free trial is nothing but a subscription trap. Myheritage offers much better service and you can restore old photos and even animate them. Don't subscribe to a free trial unless you want to pay them a large sum.

In summary, I would not recommend Ancestry.co.uk to a friend.

I was a long-time subscriber to Ancestry.co.uk and Ancestry.com

The search was superb - now the new search is CUMBERSOME and SLOW in comparison

The new, so called 'improved' Ancestry has got rid of the the Family Tree format which was clean, fresh, attractive and intuitive to use, and replaced it with a new and very ugly one, that's very inaccurate regarding location.

SAD TO SAY, I could no longer recommend Ancestry

In summary, I would not recommend Ancestry.co.uk to a friend.

I have had absolute shocking service from Ancestry in the UK. I tried to cancel back in April by e-mail. Then again in June and I just recently noticed they'd taken money again...when I rang the 'helpline' the disinterested staff (based in Ireland?) said they would finally cancel the subscription me the six months but not refund the 6 x payments they had taken against my wishes. They are now not responding to my e-mails. If you are thinking of using this geneology site do a quick google search and type in 'problems with ancestry.com and you will see dozens of customers with similar customer service complaints. SHOCKING!

In summary, I would not recommend Ancestry.co.uk to a friend.

Complained to ancestry about damaged certificate , got apology, and poor excuse. never thought to replace damaged certificate. why don't they send certificates with cardboard backing.

I tested the UK site against my full Ancestry.com site, for Irish records, and found that the full site has more records and contains all the records that the UK site has. If you find out different, please let me know... hannum7 at yahoo dot com. Thx.

Hi,

This is one of three major family tree finder websites I have used and it is by far the best.

If I have any complaints it would be that it is expensive and you do not have full access to the 1911 census.

Once or twice I seem to have had Gremlins in my tree where records were duplicated and I had to spend hours deleting them.

Also watch the membership it will roll over if you do not cancel it.

On the whole the best one though, easy to navigate, helpful hints and contact with other members. Nice visually.

As a customer now for several years have found this site to be the best, even though it is the most expensive you are getting access to worldwide records, Australia, Canada, U.S and the site is adding new records constantly. I do agree that the search function could be better but am still very pleased with what is provided.

Having read a few of the rather harsh negative user reviews of Ancestry.co.uk here, I thought I should add my two cents worth! I will admit that the site is not perfect (what website is?) but having used a number of different UK-based genealogy sites (both free and paid) to research my family tree, I can honestly say that Ancestry.co.uk is the best by far. No other site gives you as many features and no other site has as much information on it as Ancestry.

I think some of the 1-star reviews posted here are very unfair. Yes, the site is expensive, but you get what you pay for. And yes, you do have to ring up to cancel your subscription, which is a royal pain, however it is a freephone number and cancelling over the phone is fairly straightforward, so is it really worth giving it 1-star overall because of that? These are very harsh reviews, so I thought I should try and balance things out more with my positive experience.
