Wrong approach

The government of Scotland is offsetting the cost of this service via a pay-per-view model. However, asking people to pay to view records that may have no relevance to their genealogical records discourages people from using this site. Other countries offer this information for free, as it encourages tourism for people with ancestors. This would be a better approach.
In summary, I would not recommend Scotlands People to a friend.

Absolute waste of time. Worst website I have ever been on. Wasted so much time looking for basic info that is not even on the site.
In summary, I would not recommend Scotlands People to a friend.

Have spent quite a lot of money with ScotlandsPeople as I am using Ancestry and the information is limited. However, I tried to find my grandfather's birth certificate and it wasn't listed. I've also tried to find other relatives to no avail. It is a little easier when searching the Church records as there is a bit more information on the results page but basically it is possible to spend a lot of money on records that are wrong.
In summary, I would not recommend Scotlands People to a friend.
