I've used MyHeritage.com's program for the last twelve-ish years and I like the program and find it easier(for me) to use than Ancestry's program. I used to love MyHeritage.com because I could find matches with other trees and I even found a distant cousin this way who is also working on our tree and we shared information with each other. However in the last few years the site has made some changes which they claim were supporting the majority of the users. I suspect that if that is so than the majority don't use it for keeping large trees online. I was already using Rootsweb at the same time for my tree though I didn't like that site as much back then. MyHeritage reduced the number of people a tree can have under the free membership so they could increase the amount of videos and photo albums users can have. I do not used videos or the other added features that were added as I have no use for them. I don't mind that they were added, only that now I can't fit my tree on the site anymore when before I could since I don't have the money on... (Read the full review)

I have used my Heritage for 2 years now. No it is not free ( only the first 250 names). I have now upgraded to Premium because I have found this site excellent for locating our missing family lines. ( not located with other programmes ) The programme is easy to navigate and is great for easy understanding where family members may have married again after being widowed. Especially good for establishing whether family or not is the Smart Search section.

Helps to eliminate inaccuracies.

Overall for me this site is excellent to use, does not take over my computer. Having looked at a number of different genealogy programmes think that it is " different strokes for different folks'

Suggest that you undertake another review of this website given you are inicating it is free when it is not.

Do not download My Heritage program. It will take over your computer. They are collecting data from your searches. No matter how you try to uninstall this program it keeps coming back. My heritage is not free and it comes with a virus, that tracks it's users.

I tried this site for the "free" 14 day trial. The site bills your credit card for $1 initially and then they refuse to cancel your membership if you are unhappy with the site. I have been billed for $76 and have had to cancel my credit card as they are still not cancelling my membership even though I have contacted them numerous times. Dont give these people your details they are not to be trusted. If you have registered with them cancel your credit card before it is too late.

In summary, I would not recommend My Heritage to a friend.

This site is the biggest headache I have ever come across ! Once you use it they NEVER leave you alone. I click on another personnel website of mine & they keep popping up instead !! NEVER use this, they are snoops & leaches, I am having a hard time getting them off my computer !
Do NOT go here !!!!!

I think most of the negative reviews posted about myheratige are from user who are not very computer savvy. I've been using myheritage for six months now and have almost a hundred family members who have signed up and none have had any issue.

I simple tell everyone to not use the downloadable software. You and your users can easily work with the site live on the web without utilizing the software. The user interface is far easier than any other website I've used in regards to adding people etc.

Finding information can be somewhat frustrating if you don't have an account with worldvitalrecords.com, im sure. However if your serious about genealogy in general you know spending that little bit of extra money makes a huge difference. With the amount of information online now it's a virtual field day for anyone serious about genealogy. One website will not be sufficient, but worldvitalrecords is a great addition to the myheritage family. I have located hundreds of documents for my family and those of my friends.
There are some minor things that could be added to make this even better, but overall it's a great site and I highly recommend it.

We have used the free version of this program for a year; sometimes it has been nice to use and useful, but not user friendly; lots of odd navigation problems. It is recently becoming more and more intrusive with update checker that I can't turn off and Google toolbars that I didn't ask for. Starts to look like spyware!

In summary, I would not recommend My Heritage to a friend.

I signed up for this hoping to do some research. I have not been able to complete a single search without being directed to another site that requires payment. My Heritage provides no phone number to talk with anyone. Save your money.

Dear all - stay away from this website!!!!!!

I have horrible experiences with the customer services! After closing my account the company does not want to remove my name from the public myheritage directory.

One year ago I tried myheritage out but I found out it is not for me. I closed my account and like the website says I expected all information to be removed. Nonetheless, the company kept my family name and location (available on google, bing etc)

At first they told me that the family names data base is also based on a lot of phone-book records and open sources. Lie! Lie! Lie! my name is exotic and I was not listed anywhere with my full name and country! so, I asked them to provide me with their source, but of course they could not.

Then, after finally agreeing with me Noam, the customer service agent, told me that their developers removed my name from the last name directory. This was false, only the location was removed!

This website is the best free genealogy website that I could find. I'm not sure what the others are complaining about.

It's easy to use, and lets you have 250 people in your tree for free, with photos, multiple members. You can share your trees with others.

I've tried the software too. It seems like it would be good if you were doing proper research - it has places for storing reference documentation etc. - but if you're just entering a tree with your known relatives it's probably not worth getting.

The site allows you to download your tree to GEDCOM.
