Beware find a grave!!!

Beware Find A Grave!! I along with my mom, my aunt and a second cousin (who has a masters in Genealogy had our accounts deactivated from Find A Grave all because of two people who claimed to be relatives that weren't. They were constantly posting things on our immediate family memorials that weren't true. Each time that one of us in the family would politely attempt to correct them on something that they had posted that was incorrect they would get very nasty and just posted more and more untrue things on purpose. My Aunt Nancy never posted anything but flower Tributes on the memorials with things like, "Miss You" and the same with my mom, Alma. Yet, they too got their accounts deactivated. All of us filed SEVERAL complaints (with proof) to Find A Grave without anything ever being done. Not one thing. And now each one of us have had our accounts closed down for what Find A Grave said was harassment without any proof (because there was none or if something was submitted by one of these two, nothing was done to make sure that it was true). No one in our family that was on Find... (Read the full review)

Plagiarism
07 January 2020
Reviewer: Herb Kroeger from Louisiana

I am a relatively new user to Findagrave and initially found it very useful to find burial sites
and grave marker photos of my ancestors. After completing a couple of family histories, I started to find
information and photos contained in those family histories now appearing on Findagrave being attributed to
other Findagrave members. The information contained in my family histories was not placed on any genealogy websites, including Findagrave. It appears that some Findagrave trolls go to extraordinary lengths
to plagiarize other peoples work and to put their name it. I concur with other members complaints about
Findagrave members who are totally unrelated to ancestors taking credit for and changing other members work. Sad situation!

In summary, I would not recommend Find A Grave to a friend.

Too much "mythology" and "fake" genealogies
30 July 2019

When Find A Grave is using actual cemeteries and headstones for information, the site is wonderful. It is a wonderful way to search and document your ancestors.

But, more and more, people are using Find a Grave as an "Ancestry" site, adding all kinds of fake genealogies and people by using the "virtual memorial" capability. The issue is that even if you have records to prove them wrong, there is no way to correct the data on the memorial unless the manager of the memorial agrees. I have run into people who accuse me of harassment of them because I want the truth on Find a Grave. I always provide copies of death records, marriage records or whatever when I ask for changes, but, still people want to express their opinions or tie themselves to someone famous, so they do not want the "truth".

I have been a member for years, and I hate to see the site being mis-used in this manner. I also feel sorry for people who are new to genealogy and are misled by these kinds of issues.

In summary, I would not recommend Find A Grave to a friend.

I will never use this poor site again.

They changed the ability to add family connections without speaking to the original manager, but they often ignore requests. Incorrect infomation is often added by unrelated people. This is a ridiculous concept and I wouldn't recommend anyone use the information from this site.

New site unpleasant to use.

My star rating is for the new site only. The old site's design would get more stars. The old site loads the info that you want very fast. It doesn't load thumbnails of everyone remotely related. When I search, I am looking for one person and one memorial, and the old search finds and loads that easily. The links for related persons are right there to click. It also makes the place search much faster. The new site and search has a clumsy search engine and each entry takes very long to load, plus the layout is difficult to use. Too much scrolling and hunting. I will have to get used to it, but I much prefer the old site.

Disgusted!

Reviewer: Teresa from Missouri

I had been a loyal contributor to Find-A-Grave for nine years. The new website is dreadful. Not only did I get shut out as a contributor, the company won't respond to my requests to have access to my profile. Determined to keep adding memorials, I created a new account. What I need to know is WHY?, oh WHY? did FAG create this dreadful new website. The popups are horrible, searching for the spot to add memorials is an ordeal, and the extra steps needed to add more than one memorial to a cemetery wastes valuable time. How dreadful.

In summary, I would not recommend Find A Grave to a friend.

The new Find A Grave is Junk!

Find A Grave recently “upgraded” their website. It’s filled with intrusive pop-ups. The infinite scrolling is not for the weak. It’s labor intensive and just plain annoying. If you have mobile device you should just turn away now. The pages are so sprawled out and you have to click (see more) scroll. Click (see more photos) the pictures are now grainy unless you click 3 times to see the original.

Typing out a location is a test of patience. Have you seen the sloth commercial for geico? Think of that.
Find A Grave literally took everything good about the site and wiped it out. (Planned Chaos?) it seems so.
I could continue with negatives but the review would be too long. They have effectively shut down all conversations on social media detailing how bad it is.

In summary, I would not recommend Find A Grave to a friend.

Here's my main problem with Findagrave

Reviewer: Anacortes from Anacortes, WA

Findagrave allows a single member to possess hundreds of thousands or probably soon to be millions of memorials. This simply isn't fair and encourages sick individuals to horde memorials, apparently to stroke their ego's at the expense of the families of the dead. Let me give you an example: My father's aunt's findagrave memorial is owned by someone who is in no way related to her, doesn't give a whit about her or her family, and refuses to transfer her memorial to a family member (me) who shares not only her genetics but her family name. I've been trying to gather my family's memorials under a single umbrella and am unable to do so due to this morbid compulsion with obtaining cyber corpses.

I think most findagrave subscribers are like me and are only interested in their own families and I can not for the life of me comprehend why anyone would want to own hundreds of thousands of memorials of dead people completely unrelated to them.

Findagrave, please change your rules and put a stop to this absurd competition for being the greatest cyber corps owner, it's becoming psychotic.

This being said, I still use it because it... (Read the full review)

Find a grave members
24 November 2016
Reviewer: Smithislay from CA

I was a member for over 7 years and the one thing I noticed, that members actually list their own rules and regulations under their profiles.

Instead of introducing themselves, they rant and rave about what to do, how to do it and when to do it.
One thing came to mind over the years, those who listed the rules very seldom followed the rules. Many members just add names, no info what so ever, while others, bring the people to life...linking them to family, adding birth info...going the extra mile, traveling the cemeteries.
I became discouraged by Find and Grave due to those members, mentioned above and yes you know who you are.

Recently one of my grave photos was removed from a memorial I created in 2009 and was transferred to another members memorial, that she just created over the summer of 2016.
No notice from Find a grave, no explanation as to why they took my picture as per the other members request...just delete and add to her.

When I questioned it, no response, when I deleted it Find a Grave deleted my access to all the memorials I created over the past 7 years, no explanation. Get this the member that stole... (Read the full review)
