My dad purchased a kit through My Heritage as a Christmas gift in November. He was told shipping would take a month, but he also had to sign up for a membership. The membership free trial ended and he still had not received his purchase. However, because he cancelled the membership after the trial, he had no way of contacting them to find out what happened to his purchase.

The whole thing feels a little scammy to me and my dad lost his money and then had to buy a second gift for Christmas. Not impressed at all.

In summary, I would not recommend My Heritage to a friend.

I ordered a DNA test from MyHeritage, expecting only the product. I did not want any subscription, but they automatically enrolled me in a paid service without my consent. I was charged $152 for a full year right after being notified that my trial “ended.” I never agreed to this subscription and didn’t even have time to check that it had been activated. MyHeritage’s billing practices feel misleading, and I’ve had to contact support to demand a refund. I do not recommend this company because of how they handle subscriptions and charges

I placed an order for a DNA test and have been waiting for the shipment for more than 12 days. There is still no clear information on when it will actually be sent. Reaching customer support is impossible — all you get are automated responses that don’t address anything. Very disappointing experience so far.

This is one of the worst websites I have had to deal with. First of all, there is very little research material here that is not available free on familysearch. Second, they don't even follow general well-known genealogical procedures. For example, women are listed by their married names. The hints and suggestions are requests for you to join other people's trees with yours including all of the people who may be incorrect. "Helpful" suggestions are things like I have things listed after a death date - like obituaries! Of course, they are after the death date. In the 25 years I have been researching this is the first site I regretted sending money for.

I wanted to use their "Deep Nostalgia" photo animation which is amazing. It said I could do so by establishing a FREE Basic account which I did. I completed three animations, and on the fourth, I was interrupted EVERY TIME with being taken to the subscription page which had three choices. The ONLY choice I could choose was the most expensive.

The DNA results are anomalous and questionable, but their “Instant Discoveries” are beyond bogus. First, the DNA results: Compared to the other tests that I’ve taken, the MyHeritage results were quite different. They are NOT at all in alignment with the other companies, NOT vaguely in alignment with my own genealogy (going back over 20 generations, in some instances), and NOT in alignment with the potential relatives that they’re identifying for me. Now, I realize that DNA is random and wouldn’t necessarily correspond to a genealogy. However, if they tell you that you have a high percentage of DNA originating from a particular place (in my case, Iberia), then there should be some evidence either in the genealogical record or in their DNA relationship match-ups — or in other companies’ DNA tests. There simply isn’t. Conversely, if other companies show a particular origin (ethnic composition) and if my genealogy confirms that ethnic origin, then I would expect to see some evidence of that same ethnic origin in MyHeritage — just as I see elsewhere. But I do not. Knowing the vagaries of DNA testing and the algorithms of origin assignment, I can guess that there might be some scientific explanation... (Read the full review)

I have been using My Heritage for some years.
I have discovered family members whom I never knew existed!
I am much more in touch with my family and am able to send birthday and anniversary greetings well in time.
The technical support is very helpful and effective, I had a long session yesterday evening updating the version I was using and the representative Maya was so helpful and patient in helping me through the process.
I think it would advisable to have more telephone lines to help contact the help desk, I have had some difficulty with this issue.
Secondly, I would recommend changing the verification process for entering the help desk. If I can't go online for example, then I am not able to supply information from online pages such as my account number. You could use many other means of entry.
It is so important to me to build a family tree as time goes on and generations come and go and the stories of my ancestors will be available for the future.

My problem started when I tried to add an additional person's DNA kit to my DNA kit which seemed effortless to complete, when I arrived at a "continue", my photo albums opened and I could find no way to enter the second person's activity code, there was however a free phone call number, which I duly dialled and after pushing what seemed like an endless number of number prompts, I was asked for my Account ID Number, I did not have this handy, so opened My Heritage, retrieved my ID and proceeded on with the phone call. A voice responded after a reasonably short length of time, this person on the end of the line was so pleasant and helpful and even giggled along with me at some of my failings. All in all, a very pleasant, and helpful result enabling the completion of my details and that of my other person.

Customer service is a waste of time. They only have yearly subscriptions, which doesn't work when on a fixed income. Ancestry is by FAR the better site. I would not recommend Heritage to anyone.
