Are you thinking of building a family tree? Than go to www.myheritage.com and get a free download. Start with yourself and after some time you can make a nice book for your family and transfer it to your own website with different-photo albums and documents for yourself and members of your site.
If you want more you can chose a Premium or Premium Plus and Data account, that's up to you. I have done the last and the use of Smart- and Record Matches makes it very easy to improve your Family Tree and its easy to make contact with other MyHeritage members on-site.
it can happen that you need assistance and in that case the MyHeritage Support Team will help you very fast in a friendly manner and adequate way.
When you are busy with it, it could work like an addiction, but without "drugs".

I just dabble, and this seems perfect for me. Once in a while, a Smart Match reveals long-forgotten relatives, and this is always exciting. My 91 year old father thought he had 4 aunts and uncles. I was able to show him that he had 7, and reading out the names of the forgotten ones made his face light up. His smile of recognition was worth the investment alone.

I had a great experience with My Heritage. Having so much information makes it a great tool for research and getting to know more of your family and other families.
My only concern was having privacy. I emailed them for help and I received a response the same day. By the second day my problem was solved.
It is great to know that behind a site there is people working hard to improve the site and help the customers.

I had recently started to use Family Tree Builder, I had been using a different program to manage my files and My heritage was used for research, it was becoming increasingly awkward to maintain 2 separate systems so I decided to take the plunge with Family tree builder. I exported a GEDCOM file from my old app and uploaded it to my heritage, unfortunately it would not sync with my existing site, so I had to basically start from Scratch, this proved a bit of a nightmare as I was inundated with approximately 300K smart matches. One feature I like is the consistency checker, it is great at identifying underlying problems with your files, I had some problems I could not figure out, so I sent a note to tech support, and Laura there got back to me very quickly and she helped solve my problem. So now all is well and I just have to figure out how to handle all these smart matches in a timely fashion!!

In summary, I would recommend My Heritage to a friend.

I am not of the computer age and I had an issue and couldn't think how to do what needed to be done. May be obvious for most but not me. Didn't think I had a chance sending an email to myheritage help and having them understand what I was trying to do let alone help AND quickly. I was wrong. I sent off an email and got a response from Laura promptly. No tech speak or me finding someone to translate the lingo. Got the issue solved and all happy again. Thanks Laura !

I decided to give My Heritage a try several months ago and I am quite happy that I decided to do so. The software used for creating my family tree is very easy to use and very thorough in its content.

I definitely like the Smart Matching feature. It allows me to find matching individuals in other family trees, as well as their ancestors and descendants, which can be useful as additions to my tree. My only "complaint" about the Smart Matching is that rejected matches will reappear in new searches. It would seem to me that a rejected match should disappear from the list and not be offered to me again in future searches. This is only a minor annoyance, however, and does not detract from the overall value of the Smart Matching feature.

The ability of the software/site to search various other repositories of records (census, birth, death, etc.) and offer possible matches to individuals in the tree is also quite useful, although it is somewhat frustrating to click on a possible record match only to learn that a payment (annual data subscription) is required to access the record and determine if it is really a match.... Originally was using a competitor's software but moved to MyHeritage once I discovered family members in other countries had already constructed branches of our family tree using this software. The ease of transferring family history information was worth the effort in the long run.

I am satisfied with my decision to change.

The Smart Matches is useful however I suggest setting your filter above the default level in order to keep the information suggestions relevant.

I do enjoy the Chart, Reports and Statistics features, particularly as I have the option of including thumbnail photos.

Technical support has been prompt and effective, so kudos to this department.

A few features I would care to see:

(a) a caption option for homepage photograph - members respond favorably to featured photos of upcoming events;

(b) mass editing option - ability to select a large number of individuals having identical information and applying editing to entire group rather than individually;

(c) blended family option - having step-children visually included other than as indirect relatives in family tree

In summary, I would recommend My Heritage to a friend.

My Heritage is certainly easy to join and the website is no harder to navigate than others, but it's downhill from there.
The free features of My Heritage, particularly the basic family tree builder facility, are excellent with lots of "bells and whistles" , but as a research facility, it is frankly useless.
There is constant pressure to "invest" in more than just the basic site in order to enjoy the ability to search further, and a constant (sometimes frankly annoying) stream of e-mails announcing "smart matches" which you need to spend money to follow up.
My advice would be to SPEND NOTHING as the search facilities are hopeless when compared to such as Ancestry, Family Search, GRL...etc., and many others. Repeated searches for many simple records I already own produced reams of results, none of them relevant.

In summary I would say that when you have exhausted My Heritage's free features - move on!

As a user of MyHeritage for about 5 years I have found it the userfriendly site. It was easy to start working with - also with other members of the family. A discussion via the inbox is easy with other memmbers.

Some problems seem to be with the smart matches, although they mainly are most useful. However, there are lot time involved with wrong matches of different name or data.

After some problems of my pictures I was happily surprised with Shlomi, who understood the problem and found the solution very fast, Thank you Shlomi!

Very good technical support and assistance.

The working site is fantastic, easy to fill,to find and save all the data. Plus the maps, the family book etc. are very helpful.

As for the online site, the navigation is a little heavy and difficult to follow the ancestors of a branch. Sometimes the smart matches are annoying.
